Swipey · AI companion privacy check · 18+
Private by default is a phrase, not a setting.
So we went looking for the settings. What Swipey can see, what your browser quietly keeps afterwards, and the handful of habits that decide whether any of this stays yours.

Swipey is an adult (18+) AI companion you use in a browser: you build a character, then chat. It is a legitimate service rather than a scam, and privacy is the question worth asking — chats sit in an account, and discretion depends mostly on how you set it up.
Get started in seconds
How it works
Open it in a private window
Sixty seconds of setup that saves the awkward conversation later: incognito, or a browser profile that is not the one your household shares. Decline the notification prompt while you are in there.
Build the character
Choose a personality, a tone and a few interests. It takes about as long as reading this sentence twice, and you can rewrite any of it mid-conversation.
Visit settings before you commit
Find the memory toggle and the deletion option before you need them. If a service makes either one hard to locate, that is useful information about the service.
Why Swipey
Three things that decide how private this stays
Not the marketing bullets. The parts that actually leave a trace somewhere.

An account, not a noticeboard
Chats live behind your login. No feed, no public profile, nobody scrolling past. That is the floor rather than the ceiling — the rest happens on your own device.

Nothing installed, nothing to explain
It runs in a browser tab. No icon on a home screen, no entry in an app library. The awkward part moves to your history instead, where you control it.

Controls you can actually find
Persona, memory and deletion sit in a settings page rather than at the end of a support ticket. Worth two minutes before your first real conversation.
What 'private by default' should actually mean
Every companion app on the internet claims discretion in the same three words. Very few explain what the phrase covers, which parts are the app's job, and which parts quietly become yours the moment you open a tab. Here is the honest division of labour.
An app can keep your chats off the public internet. It cannot keep them off your laptop.
Start with what the app necessarily knows. A chat model cannot answer text it has not received, so every message you send is read by something on the other side. That is not a scandal, it is arithmetic. The question worth asking is narrower: who else can reach it, and is there any route by which a stranger ends up reading your conversation?
For Swipey the answer is reassuringly boring. There is no feed, no public character page, no follower count, nothing shareable sitting there waiting to be misconfigured. Compare that with apps built around browsable character libraries, where exposure is a feature rather than an accident. Fewer moving parts means fewer ways for the wrong person to see something.
Then there is your own machine, which is where discretion actually goes wrong. Browsers are enthusiastic note-takers: history, autocomplete, cached images, a saved login that surfaces the next time somebody types the first two letters of a domain. None of that is the app's fault, and all of it is fixable in roughly ninety seconds.
So, the habits. Use a private window, or a browser profile that is not your daily one. Decline notification permissions, because a lock screen is the least discreet display you own. Sign in with an address that is not your work email. And if you upgrade, read the billing descriptor at checkout rather than assuming it will be subtle.
- No feed, no profile, nothing public by default
- Runs in a browser tab — nothing installed to explain
- Persona, memory and deletion controls in one place
- Free tier is enough to judge it before you pay
Judge it before you pay for it
The free tier is enough to see whether the conversation holds up past the first ten messages, which is the only test that really matters. Spend twenty minutes there before anyone gets your card details.
- Build a character and talk, free
- Read the settings page while you are there
- Upgrade later, or do not
What members say
Real conversations, real connection
“I went in expecting to find something wrong and mostly found a settings page that did what it said. The chats are good. The absence of a feed is the real selling point.”
“Nothing installed, nothing on the home screen, no notifications I did not ask for. On a laptop three people use, that matters more to me than the conversation quality — which is also fine.”
“The honest part is that most of the privacy work turned out to be mine. Private window, separate email, done. Took less time than reading the terms.”
